Roma president Rosella Sensi has sought to end speculation regarding the future of Daniele De Rossi, by declaring the Italy international is not for sale. The Rome-born midfielder has attracted interest from across Europe, with Manchester City and Real Madrid the most strongly linked.

"Daniele will remain at Roma forever, Real can forget about him," Sensi told Il Messaggero. The 26-year-old has been linked with moves away from the club before. Last summer, Real were keen to acquire De Rossi's services but the Eternal City outfit opted to keep the player, who is contracted until June 2012.

To be linked with important clubs makes me happy because it's a sign that I'm doing things well.

The Italian press believe Real are back in the race to sign De Rossi, who they say is one of the players Jose Mourinho wants to take with him to Madrid if the Portuguese manager completes his expected move to Spain.

De Rossi, who is currently training with Italy in preparation for next month's World Cup said: "I don't know anything about Real's interest. To be linked with important clubs makes me happy because it's a sign that I'm doing things well. I would consider a move away only if the club tells me that for technical, tactical or financial reasons they must sell me. Would I have any problems working with (Jose) Mourinho? Absolutely not."
