Benfica secured the Portuguese Liga title with a 2-1 win over ten-man Rio Ave on Sunday, but they did not always make it look easy.
Oscar Cardozo put Benfica ahead in only the third minute, and they should have been cruising once the visitors had Jose De Souza Wires sent off eight minutes later. But instead, Rio Ave were able to equalise through Ricardo Chaves in the 71st minute before Cardozo's second won it seven minutes later.
The win put Benfica five points ahead of Braga, who finished their season with a 1-1 draw at Nacional. The hosts opened the scoring in the 51st minute through Edgar, but Wason Renteria earned Braga a point six minutes later.
Maritimo came from behind to beat Guimaraes 2-1 away from home. Valdomiro put the hosts in front after only 15 minutes, but Kleber equalised on the stroke of half-time, and then got a second to win it nine minutes from time, with Maritimo surviving the injury-time dismissal of goalkeeper Peterson Pecanha.
Bruno Amaro's 81st minute goal was enough for Academica to finish with a 1-0 win over Naval, Vieira Djalmir got the second of his brace in the 87th minute as Olhanense salvaged a 2-2 draw at Pacos Ferreira.
