AC Milan were handed a silver lining today when it was revealed Alessandro Nesta should be back in action in around a month.

David Beckham was today due to undergo surgery in Finland after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon which was expected to keep him out for the rest of the season and beyond.

Defender Nesta himself went under the knife today after sustaining a knee injury in last weekend's draw against Roma. There had been fears he too had played his last game of the Serie A campaign but the prognosis today was good.

"Alessandro Nesta underwent surgery in Rome today and will be able to return to training after 30 days," read a statement on AC Milan's website.

Coach Leonardo could now have Nesta back to face Sampdoria on 18 April.
