Washington grabbed a brace as Sao Paulo moved up to second in the Copa Libertadores Group 2 with a 2-0 away victory over Nacional in Paraguay.

The Brazilian side were poor on the whole, but took their chances in the second half with Washington finishing from Dagoberto's through ball before adding a second a minute from time.

"This performance gives me confidence for the next match," said Washington, who has taken some heavy criticism since Sao Paulo's loss to Group 2 leaders Once Caldas. "Next week, against Nacional again, I will have the responsibility of scoring more goals."

In Group 5, Ecuador's Emelec suffered a surprise home loss to Cerro of Uruguay, going down 2-1. Pablo Caballero put the visitors in front when he turned in a rebound from close range, and Claudio Dadamo doubled their advantage in the 66th minute.

Pablo Perez headed Emelec back into the game four minutes later, but they could not find an equaliser as they lost their second match in a row. The win sends Cerro top of the table.

Brazil's Internacional have moved up to second with a 1-1 draw in Ecuador against Deportivo Quito. Tilson Minda had put Deportivo in front, but Guiliano earned a point for the visitors.

The Venezuelans went on the attack, and took an early lead through Richard Blanco. Kleber's brace turned the game on its head, but David McIntosh hit an equaliser.
