Fiorentina have confirmed they will appeal against the three-match ban handed out to defender Massimo Gobbi.

Gobbi was sent off during his team's 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last month following a tackle on Arjen Robben.

"UEFA has decided to punish Massimo Gobbi with a three-match ban and Fiorentina has decided to appeal," read a statement on the club's website.

Gobbi is due to miss the return leg in Florence on 9 March as well as both legs of the quarter finals, should La Viola reach the next round.
