Former France and Arsenal forward Sylvain Wiltord has signed for Ligue 2 side Metz.

The 35-year-old, who helped Les Bleus to UEFA Euro 2000 glory, had been without a club since being released by Marseille at the end of last season.

He trained with Creteil, who are based in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris, earlier this month with a view to signing for the third-tier club before the end of January. But he has now put pen to paper for Metz, who lie seventh in the Ligue 2 standings.

Club president Bernard Serin said: "The arrival of Sylvain to our squad is the culmination of several days of discussions. We have put much energy into these discussions and have made significant efforts. I'm very glad it is concluded in this way."

No details were given about the length of the deal, although reports in France suggest it is until the end of the season.
