Club Brugge missed the chance to close the six-point gap on Jupiler League leaders Anderlecht as they lost 2-0 at Genk who boosted their survival hopes with the win.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Daan Van Gijseghem was sent off and Genk went on to score twice.
Thomas Buffel opened the scoring from the penalty spot before substitute Fabien Camus wrapped up the points with a goal in the 81st minute, four minutes after coming on.
In the other game mid-table sides Mechelen and Standard Liege drew 0-0 despite the visitors being reduced to 10 men halfway through the game when Ricardo Rocha was sent off.
