In-form Borussia Dortmund made it five straight wins with a topsy-turvy 3-2 victory against Cologne, having looked as if they had thrown the three points away.
Mats Hummel opened the scoring in the 28th minute and doubled Dortmund's lead in first-half injury time. That remained the score going into the final ten minutes of the match and Kevin McKenna's 82nd-minute strike looked nothing more than a consolation.
Youssef Mohamad then equalised with two minutes left only for Kevin Grosskreutz to pop up in injury time and seal the victory for his side.
Kevin Kuranyi's goal early in the second half was enough for Schalke to beat Nuremberg 1-0 at home and continue their strong run. Kuranyi scored the only goal of the game in the 48th minute and the Schalke defence held firm to seal the points.
Felix Magath's team clinched their fourth straight victory and fifth in the last six games to return to second place in the table, one point behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
