Five-time Saudi league champions Al Shabab kept the pressure on leaders Al Hilal as they defeated their city rivals Al Nasr 3-2 in the top match of round 14 of the league on Friday.
The win was the tenth victory for Al Shabab this season and they are now five points behind Al Hilal while Al Nasr suffered their second defeat to remain in the seventh place in the standing. Al Nasr were dealt a big blow at the start of the game as goalkeeper Khaled Radhi was sent off and Al Shabab opened the scoring in the first minute of stoppage time through Nassir Al Shamrani's powerful header.
Al Nasr levelled the score two minutes into the second half through Argentinean midfielder Victor Figueroa who fired in a powerful shot from just inside the area. However, Al Shabab regained their lead on 53 minutes when Abdullah Shuhail crossed from the right but Al Nasr goalkeeper but Abdulla Al Enazi failed to hold the ball which went into the net.
Al Nasr levelled after 77 minutes when Figuero scored his second goal on the night with another superb individual effort, but his joy lasted only two minutes as Abdullah Al Asta scored the winning goal for Al Shabab. Al Nasr finished the game with nine men as their midfielder Saud Hamoud received his second yellow card in the last minute of the game.
In Friday's other game, Al Ittifaq shared a scoreless draw with Al Ahli who finished the game with ten men as defender Mansour Al Harbi picked up his second caution with 20 minutes remaining.
