Al Jazira outlast Bani Yas
Al Jazira climbed to the top of the table Friday following their 5-3 win against newcomers Bani Yas in the opening match of round six. Al Jazira claimed their 16th point, just three ahead of former leaders Al Ain, who meet Al Dhafra today while Bani Yas suffered their first defeat this season to remain in fourth place with 11 points.
Al Jazira took the lead after 11 minutes when Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira had a powerful shot that bounced back to Ivory Coast striker Anthony Nantcho.
Nantcho turned from scorer to provider when he sent a neat pass to Oliveira who made it 2-0 on 18 minutes, just two minutes before Bani Yas pulled a goal back through Senegalese striker Papa Georges.
Subait Khater scored the third goal for Al Jazira on 33 minutes with a powerful shot from distance before Bani Yas scored their second goal through Thiyab Awana.
Senegalese striker Andre Senghor levelled the scores from a spot kick, but Oliveira reclaimed the lead for Al Jazira as he scored his second goal of the night on 81 minutes before Ali Mabkhoot made it 5-3 with five minutes remaining.
Defending champions Al Ahli claimed their first win for new coach Mahdi Ali as they defeated Al Nasr 2-1. The 2008 AFC Young Player of the Year Ahmed Khalil opened the scoring for Al Ahli before Iranian striker Eman Mobali levelled.
Al Ahli regained their lead through a Yousef Jaber penalty and both sides were reduced to ten men as Kadhem Ali was sent off from Al Nasr in the fifth minute of stoppage time, while Al Ahli's Hassan Ali received a red card two minutes later.
Al Sharjah meet Ajman today and on Sunday Al Shabab play against Emirates and Al Wasl host Al Wahda.
