Wellington Phoenix climbed into the top six of the A-League with a 3-0 win over Newcastle Jets today at Westpac Stadium.

Tim Brown opened the scoring in the 27th minute, the teenager pouncing on a loose ball after goalkeeper Ben Kennedy failed to hold Costa Barbarouses's shot.

Barbarouses turned provider for Phoenix's second ten minutes into the second half, when the forward backheeled the ball into the path of former Tranmere Rovers forward Chris Greenacre to slot home.

Greenacre then saw his penalty saved by Kennedy in the 83rd minute, but the Phoenix added a third when Paul Ifil bundled the ball home in the 90th minute.

The victory was just Wellington's third of the season but extended their unbeaten run at home to 12 games.
