A brace from Robbie Fowler secured a second successive win for North Queensland Fury as they beat Gold Coast United 2-0 at Skilled Park.

Former Liverpool striker Fowler opened the scoring in the 63rd minute when he drove home a low shot after being set up by David Williams.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty in the 76th minute when Steve Panteldis was judged to have handled the ball in the area and Fowler stepped up to score from the spot.

The win means Fury climb to seventh in the standings while Gold Coast drop to third.

In the day's other game, ten-man Central Coast Mariners held Adelaide United to a goalless draw at Canberra Stadium. The Mariners had Matthew Crowell sent off late on but Adelaide failed to take advantage.
