A Mohamad Al Hamwi hat-trick handed Al Karamah a 3-0 win over Binh Duong of Vietnam at Khaled Ibn Al Waleed stadium to send the Syrian side through to the final of the AFC Cup.
Al Hamwi scored twice in the first half before adding his third shortly before the hour-mark for a 4-2 aggregate win which sets up a clash with Kuwait Sports Club in the final next month. Having lost the first leg 2-1 in Vietnam, Al Karamah knew they had to score to progress and made the ideal start when Al Hamwi grabbed his first of the night in the 18th minute, driving an effort into the left-hand corner.
That strike sparked a bit of pressure from Binh Duong and they had a good chance to regain the aggregate lead in the 32nd minute but Nguyen Vu Phong sent his shot just wide. Al Hamwi made things even more difficult for the visitors when he made it 2-0 after 35 minutes with a first-time volley.
Binh Duong had another good chance to get back into the game just before the break when South African striker Philani fired an effort towards goal, but Al Karamah goalkeeper Mosab Balhous was in the right place to save.
The visitors continued to press after restart but were finding themselves exposed to counter-attacks and were eventually caught out when Al Hamwi completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute, converting an easy chance after latching onto a pass from Ahmad al Omair.
