Last year's runners-up Al Jazira climbed to the top of the UAE league standings following their 2-0 win against Al Dhafra on Thursday at the start of round two of the league.

Al Jazira took the lead after a scoreless first half as they opened the scoring two minutes into the second half through their Brazilian Ricardo Oliveira who received a pass from Abdulsalam Juma and scored past Abdulbasit Mohamad. It was 2-0 on 76 minutes when Al Jazira doubled their advantage through their substitute striker Abdulla Qassem who followed a cross and scored from a close range to seal the win for his side.

Elsewhere, newcomers Bani Yas shared a 3-3 draw with Al Sharjah to climb to the sixth place in the standings. Omani international midfielder Fawzi Bashir opened the scoring for Bani Yas after 15 minutes before Al Sharjah levelled the scores through Hamid Abdulla but Mohamad Hboush gave the lead once again for Bani Yas on 52 minutes.

Al Sharjah Iraqi striker Mustafa Karim levelled the scores for Al Sharjah on 57 minutes just two minutes before Hamid Abdulla gave the lead to his side for the first time in the game. However, Senegalese striker Andre Senghor scored a valuable equaliser for Bani Yas on 80 minutes from spot kick to give his side a point from the game.

The round will be continued today as Al Nasr host Emirates and defending champions Al Ahli take on Al Ain as both sides meet for the second time in ten days while the round will be concluded on Sunday when Ajman play against Al Wahda and Al Shabab meet Al Wasl.
