Mile Sterjovski's late penalty for Perth Glory secured a 1-0 victory at Newcastle Jets that moved the visitors level on points with Gold Coast United and Sydney FC at the top of the A-League.

Sterjovski converted from the spot with nine minutes to go after the midfielder had been brought down in the box by keeper Ben Kennedy, having latched on to Victor Sikora's pass.

It was rough justice on the Jets, who, much like last week's loss to Sydney, dominated much of the game but failed to make their superiority count.

Labinot Haliti hit the post and Song Jin-hyung headed over from close range for Jets in the first half, and the hosts were left to rue those missed opportunities late in the game.
