Ajax survived a late scare to progress to the third round of the KNVB Beker with a narrow 2-1 win over second division Apeldoorn.

Martin Jol's side looked on course for a routine win when Vurnon Anita fired the Amsterdammers into a 52nd-minute lead while a Hesdey Suart own goal nine minutes later further increased the advantage. Nacer Chadli pulled one back from the penalty spot for Apeldoorn 13 minutes from time to ensure Ajax were forced to endure a few nervy moments before the final whistle sounded to confirm their safe passage.

Feyenoord, one place below Ajax in the Eredivisie standings in fourth, enjoyed a more comfortable evening as they trounced amateur outfit Harkemase Boys 5-0. Diego Biseswar opened the scoring for Feyenoord before further goals from Leroy Fer and Ron Vlaar put the result beyond doubt at the break.

Former Dutch international Roy Makaay stepped up to finish the job off in the second period, netting twice to underline the crushing superiority of the visitors. In the night's other second-round match, Gemert ran out 1-0 winners over fellow amateur outfit Achilles 29.
