Manchester City look set to be hit with a second charge of improper conduct by one of their strikers following Craig Bellamy's clash with a pitch invader.
The Football Association (FA) today launched an investigation into the Wales international's confrontation with a fan who invaded the Old Trafford pitch during Sunday's highly-charged Manchester derby. City are already fighting one FA charge following Emmanuel Adebayor's goal celebration against his former side Arsenal, and are likely to be told tomorrow that Bellamy will face a similar charge.
Bellamy's action in marching some distance towards the supporter, who had already been tackled by stewards, and putting a hand in his face are under investigation. The incident came only two days after sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe warned top footballers that they needed to act as role models or risk stronger being disciplinary action being taken against club in cases of serious misbehaviour.
An FA spokesman said: "We are investigating the incident and we will be looking at the referee's match report."
FA officials have already seen TV footage of the incident, which is also being investigated by Greater Manchester Police. United could also be in trouble after City substitute Javier Garrido was struck on the head by a coin as he headed down the tunnel at half-time.
