Esbjerg were convincing 4-0 winners at Nordsjaelland to go two points above AaB at the top of the table.
Mikkel Vendelbo put them on the road to victory in the 14th minute and Tim Jansen added a second 25 minutes later.
Any hope of a comeback from the home side was extinguished by a quickfire second-half brace from Soren Rieks.
Odense are third, behind AaB only on goal difference, as they were 3-1 winners at Koge. The win was somewhat unusual in that Odense did not score from open play, emerging victorious thanks to a Chris Sorensen penalty and a brace of own goals from the unfortunate Nicklas Svendsen.
Reigning champions Copenhagen won 3-0 at home to bottom club Randers, with Zdenek Pospech scoring twice for the capital club, while rivals Brondby won 4-2 at Sonderjyske.
Morten Duncan Rasmussen was on target twice for Brondby.
