Argentina giants River Plate are out of the Copa Sudamericana at the preliminary stage after a 3-1 aggregate win for their compatriots Lanus.
A 1-0 home win was enough for Lanus, who now face a first-leg tie against Liga de Quito in Ecuador next week.
River needed to win, but in heavy rain it was their goalkeeper Nicolas Navarro who was busiest throughout.
The only goal of the night came early in the second half, a shot by former River striker Santiago Salcedo proving too much for Navarro.
