Temuri Ketsbaia has been sacked as coach of Olympiacos on the eve of their UEFA Champions League opener against AZ.

The former Georgia international, 41, was only appointed in May after guiding Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta into the group stages of last season's Champions League, at the expense of Olympiacos.

A statement from the Athens giants said: "Olympiacos have parted company with head coach Temuri Ketsbaia by mutual agreement.

"Bozidar Bandovic will take over as caretaker coach, with Andreas Niniadis as his assistant."

The Greek side have yet to concede a goal in their opening three league fixtures and have taken seven points from a possible nine.

They open their Champions League campaign at home to the Dutch champions tomorrow night.
