Bordeaux stayed top of the table on goal difference with a 1-0 win over basement side Grenoble. Yoan Gouffran scored the only goal of the game after 18 minutes, which was enough to hold off Lyon, themselves 1-0 winners over Lorient.
Michel Bastos got the winner 19 minutes from time for Lyon, who were also grateful for a good performance from goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, bouncing back impressively after his midweek sending-off for France.
Behind them, two points back, were Montpellier and Marseille, winners over Lens and Le Mans respectively.
Alberto Costa's first-half penalty was all that separated the sides at the end of a contest largely dominated by the hosts at Stade de la Mosson.
Marseille, meanwhile, were the only team in the league to score more than one goal today as they won 2-1 at Le Mans.
Mamadou Niang and Brandao got the goals for Marseille, who had summer signing Lucho Gonzalez making his debut in an attacking midfield role, while Modibo Maiga briefly levelled for the hosts.
PSG to Monaco
Paris Saint-Germain, a further point back, will have the chance to rejoin the top two when they travel to Monaco tomorrow.
Elsewhere, Pierre-Alain Frau scored the only goal after 70 minutes as Lille beat Sochaux 1-0 and a late Daniel Moreira equaliser for Boulogne-sur-Mer prevented Valenciennes coach Philippe Montanier from getting one over his former side in a 1-1 draw at the Stade Nungesser.
Gregory Pujol had given the hosts the lead in the 75th minute, but Moreira snatched a share of the points for the newly-promoted side seven minutes from time.
The stoppage-time dismissal of Andre Luiz was the highlight of a goalless draw between Nancy and Toulouse.
