Henan held as Beijing stay top
Henan Jianye failed to reclaim top spot in the Chinese Super League today after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Jiangsu Shuntian.
Henan were on course to suffer a fifth defeat of the season when Tan Si tapped home from close range after goalkeeper Zeng Cheng had saved a well-struck effort from Colombia international Carlos Mario Ceballos Agualimpia on the hour-mark. However, Zhao Peng's header with two minutes remaining earned the home side a point which left them level with Beijing Guoan, who moved top with a 1-0 win over Shaanxi Baorong yesterday and lead the table on goal difference.
"I should still give credit to my players for scoring the late equaliser because they kept fighting with good spirit," said Henan coach Tang Yaodong. "We wasted too many chances today and we lacked a slice of luck."
Third-placed Tianjin Taida sit just a point off the pace in a tightly congested table after captain Cao Yang converted an 85th-minute penalty to secure a 2-1 win over Chengdu Blades. Brazilian striker Eber Luis' opener five minutes before the break had broken the deadlock, but Chengdu's Brazilian import, striker Rodrigues, equalised a minute later.
Guangzhou Guangyao, a point further back in fourth, remain in the hunt after Honduras striker Luis Ramirez scored twice to secure a 2-1 win over Shenyang Ginde, who grabbed a 86th-minute consolation through midfielder Liu Jianye. Fifth-placed Changchun Yatai are also just two points adrift of the leaders but missed out on a chance of making further inroads after being held to a goalless draw at Shanghai Shenhua.
Elsewhere, Dalian Shide beat bottom side Chongqing Lifan 1-0, while Shenzhen Kingway recorded just a fifth win of the season with a 2-1 triumph at Hangzhou Lvcheng thanks to a brace from on-loan Argentinian striker Hernan Barcos.
