Melbourne Victory midfielder Billy Celeski will miss the remainder of the A-League season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Newcastle Jets last night.

Celeski was stretchered off at Etihad Stadium after landing awkwardly on his left leg in the opening minutes. It was later confirmed he has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament is set to undergo surgery following a consultation on Monday.

The injury could also rule Celeski out of Melbourne's 2010 AFC Champions League campaign.

The 24-year-old made his international debut for Australia against Indonesia earlier this year and has been a regular fixture for defending champions Melbourne since joining from Perth Glory in 2008.
