Marseille have announced they have come to an agreement with Rennes over the transfer of Stephane Mbia to the Stade Velodrome. The Cameroon midfielder will sign a four-year contract with OM once he passes a medical, which was due to take place this morning.
The Mediterranean side are believed to be paying €12m for Mbia's services. "An agreement has been found between OM, Rennes and Stephane Mbia for the transfer of the player to the club," a Marseille statement read. "He must pass a medical this Monday morning and will then sign a four-year contract."
Mbia will be presented to the press at the end of the afternoon, the statement added. The versatile 23-year-old is equally adept at playing at centre-back, and can also fill in at right-back.
He will be OM's fifth signing of the summer, with new coach Didier Deschamps having already brought in Lucho Gonzalez, Edouard Cisse, Charley Fomen and Souleymane Diawara in the close season.
Deschamps is also believed to looking at signing Lille centre-back Adil Rami. English side Everton were also linked with midfield anchorman Mbia, who played 105 times in Ligue 1 for Rennes.
