Groningen defender Andreas Granqvist is a doubt for the start of the new Eredivisie campaign after sustaining an ankle injury in a pre-season training camp.
The 24-year-old Sweden international was driven to hospital by physio Tom Rozema after being on the receiving end of a tackle from team-mate Koen van der Laak.
Initial tests indicated Granqvist has suffered ligament damage, leaving a question mark over his availability for the season opener against Ajax on 2 August.
"Because his ankle has swollen up we'll have to wait for a definitive diagnosis," said coach Ron Jans told De Telegraaf.
"But it doesn't matter if it's a bad strain or if he's ripped off his ankle tendons - either way we'll be without him for a while."
