New Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has insisted he has not been told to focus solely on winning the UEFA Champions League. The Italian was unveiled before the media at Stamford Bridge yesterday, and immediately made it clear that club captain John Terry, subject of transfer interest from Manchester City, was not for sale at any price.

Ancelotti is determined to last longer than the seven-month tenure of previous manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, who was sacked in February. But he has claimed the club, led by owner Roman Abramovich, have not suggested that the Champions League should be the main target in the coming season.

It is important to win the Champions League but it is important to win the Premier League at the same time. We have to do the maximum in all competitions.

"For Chelsea, it is important to win the Champions League but it is important to win the Premier League at the same time," said Ancelotti. "We have to do the maximum we can in all competitions."

Big-money arrival, big-name return
Ancelotti confirmed Yuri Zhirkov's signing from CSKA Moscow and stressed that Terry was going nowhere. Chelsea have already rejected one bid from Manchester City and will rebuff any further attempts to prise the centre-back from the club.

"John Terry is a symbol of this team," said Ancelotti. "He will be captain next season. He said he wants to stay forever and we want to keep him forever. Now there is a question of Manchester City, but for Terry (there is) no price. Terry will be at Chelsea forever.

Zhirkov is understood to have signed a three-year contract with the option for a further 12 months. The Blues are believed to have paid around £18m for the 25-year-old Russian, who can play at left-back or on the wing. Zhirkov has played 28 times for his country and came to prominence during UEFA EURO 2008, when Russia reached the semi-finals.

We are not in a hurry. If there is a good opportunity for us we can do it. If not, we still have a great team.

Ancelotti also spoke of Andriy Shevchenko's future. The player is to return to the club for pre-season training on 9 July. The striker spent last season on loan to AC Milan, and looks certain to serve the final year of his contract out at Stamford Bridge.

"Shevchenko is a Chelsea player and I want to speak with him," said Ancelotti. "Shevchenko will come to London on July 9 and will work with us in pre-season, and at this moment we will speak with him to find the right solution for us."

Ancelotti stressed that Chelsea were in no hurry to sign more players, preferring to wait for a chance to get the right player at the right price. "We keep control of the market and we are not in a hurry," said the former Italy midfielder. "The market closes on August 31 and if there is a good opportunity for us we can do it. If not, we still have a great team."
