Prolific Grafite commits to Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg striker Grafite has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him with the Bundesliga champions until 2012. The Brazilian finished top scorer in the German top flight last season with 28 goals as Wolfsburg claimed the 'salad bowl' for the first time. And he has now extended by 12 months his previous deal, which was due to expire at the end of the 2010/2011 season.
He said: "I am delighted to have extended my contract and am looking forward to playing in the [UEFA] Champions League.
"The squad has a great deal of promise and I am looking forward to playing a part in a successful future for the club."
New Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh added: "Grafite is a class striker and enormously important for the squad. I am delighted I will be able to work with him long-term."
Grafite is set to renew his prolific partnership with Edin Dzeko at the Volkswagen Stadion. The pair broke the record for the number of goals scored by a Bundesliga strikeforce last season, netting 54 times to beat by one the previous best held by Bayern Munich legends Uli Hoeness and Gerd Muller.
Dzeko has been heavily linked with AC Milan and there have been mixed messages from the Bosnian about whether he would like to move to the San Siro. But, speaking from the club's training camp in Sylt, he stressed he was happy to remain with Wolfsburg.
He said: "I want to go for it again in the Bundesliga and I'm really looking forward to the [UEFA] Champions League.
"I feel very comfortable in Wolfsburg and will be giving 100% for the club next season."
