Independiente ended their unconvincing campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Arsenal in the last round of the Argentinian closing championship.

Arsenal attacker Franco Jara controlled Anibal Matellan's long cross and broke the deadlock after the half-hour mark.

Americo Gallego's side then grabbed an equaliser when Federico Mancuello deflected in Daniel Montenegro's free-kick.

"It was incredible that they managed to level the match. We wasted several chances and we deserved to go into the [season] break with a better score," Arsenal goalkeeper Cristian Campestrini said.

"In the changing room, the boss [Jorge Burruchaga] told us that the only way they would get an equaliser was through a free-kick or a corner kick. And it happened just like that," he said.

"I am sad that we did not finish as we expected, with a win."
