Ajax youngster Toby Alderweireld has signed a four-year contract extension.

The 20-year-old Belgium defender has put pen to paper on a deal tying him to the Amsterdam ArenA until summer 2014.

Alderweireld, who was promoted to the first team from Jong Ajax by then-coach Marco van Basten in the winter break last season, said: "This is a great way to start the new season.

We have to go for the title, that's priority number one.

"It is a confirmation that I did well last season. I don't know what to expect next term, but I am certainly going to do my best.

"The team's goals are the most important ones. We have to go for the title, that's priority number one."

One player seemingly on his way out of Ajax, though, is Leonardo, who is unhappy at his lack of first-team action.

The Brazilian has been linked with FC Twente, Spanish side Malaga and German teams Stuttgart and Hoffenheim.

"It would be nice if those clubs in reality wanted to speak with me," Leonardo said. "I really would like to have a great season."
