Ricardo Gomes has signed a one-year contract to coach Brazilian giants Sao Paulo.
The 44-year-old succeeds Muricy Ramalho, sacked last week after Sao Paulo's Copa Libertadores quarter-final defeat against Cruzeiro.
Ramalho left the club after more than three years, having helped Sao Paulo to three national titles in a row.
The official appointment of Gomes, who has coached Flamengo, Fluminense and French clubs Paris Saint-Germain, Bordeaux and Monaco, was confirmed by club director of football Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes.
"We appointed Ricardo Gomes for one year, without a release clause, and figures according to the financial policy of the club," said Lopes.
"He can bring an assistant, but he is yet to confirm us whether he will do so."
Gomes will be formally unveiled on Wednesday.
