Wang Yun's superb free-kick just before half-time secured Shaanxi Zhongxin a 1-1 draw against Hangzhou Lucheng in the Chinese Super League.
The home side made the better start at Shaanxi Stadium, with Brazilian striker Vicente De Paula Neto seeing his angled shot denied only by a spectacular save from opposing goalkeeper Jiang Bo.
The home team then wasted a string of chances before Cai Chuchuan made Shaanxi pay when giving Hangzhou the lead after 28 minutes, beating two players before firing the ball into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box.
The visitors almost doubled their advantage ten minutes later when Yang Fusheng's 40-yard long-range effort flew just over the bar. But Shaanxi levelled one minute before the break when former Vitesse Arnhem player Yu Hai earned a free-kick 30 yards out and Wang curled the ball home.
Vicente had the ball in the net midway through the second half, but he had strayed offside, while Yu Hai missed a great chance in stoppage time as the unmarked midfielder failed to connect with Li Yan's cross just yards out.
"We dominated the game but the strikers lacked the clinical touch to convert the scoring chances," said Shaanxi coach Cheng Yaodong. "We must redouble our efforts from now on as we are facing stronger teams in the domestic league."
Meanwhile, Hangzhou coach Zhou Shuian had this to say: "We showed our fighting spirit in defence today. I am satisfied with the result."
