Universidad Catolica goalkeeper Christopher Toselli has undergone successful surgery to repair torn cruciate ligaments in his left knee, according to club doctors.

The 21-year-old suffered the injury playing for Chile in their recent successful Toulon International Tournament campaign.

Toselli is expected to be sidelined for around six months, although club doctor Cristian Fontbote revealed some positives surrounding the injury.

"Fortunately, only the posterior cruciate ligament was injured," he explained.

"The rest of the knee's structure was fine, so this is great for someone who has suffered this type of injury."

"The recovery period I set does not change, though, and he will be back in five or six months."

Toselli is expected to be discharged from hospital tomorrow.
