Substitute Pi Siwei scored a last-gasp goal as Shenzhen Kingway rescued a 2-2 draw against Qingdao Zhongneng in a Chinese Super League match at Qingdao Tiantai Stadium. Qu Bao and Zheng Long scored in the first half to put the home side in charge, but Yin Xiaolong struck six minutes from time before Pi grabbed a point for the visitors in stoppage time.
Qu should have put Qingdao ahead in the 12th minute when he latched onto a cross by Zheng, but failed to beat goalkeeper Cheng Yuelei in a one-on-one situation. But he made amends just a minute later when he was sent clear by Hu Jun and rounded the on-rushing Cheng before tucking away a low shot for the opening goal.
Zheng doubled the advantage five minutes before the interval, tapping home a cross by Abdoul Aziz Nikiema at the far post. Shenzhen attempted to claw back the deficit after the break and their attacking endeavours were finally rewarded in the 84th minute. Pi rose above the Qingdao defence to meet a Liu Chao corner and although his header came back off the crossbar, Yin reacted quickly to drive the rebound into the net.
With just seconds remaining before the final whistle, Pi latched on to Mouchid Iyane Ly's header to curl home a left-footed shot from 15 yards. The dropped points mean Qingdao remain 13th in the 16-team CSL with 13 points from 11 games.
"We paid a big price today and I hope we could learn and grow from the game," said Qingdao coach Slobodan Santrac. "We have to carefully study the mistakes we made today to ensure that we won't repeat them again in coming matches."
Shenzhen are second from last with 11 points, four ahead of bottom side Chongqing Lifan and tied with 14th placed Chengdu Blades on points.
"I told my players they didn't play at their normal level during the interval and encouraged them to fully display their skills in the second period," said Shenzhen coach Fan Yuhong. "The players didn't give up in the second half and the efforts paid off."
