Botafogo recorded their first win in this season's Campeonato Brasileiro after they beat Santos 2-0.

After a goalless first-half, the hosts opened the scoring when Thiagunho fed Baptista and he found the back of the net from inside the box.

Laio made sure of the points in injury time when he beat keeper Fabio.

"We want to dedicate this triumph to our coach Ney Franco. He has endured a lot of criticism over the last few weeks, but he never gave up," said midfielder Leandro Guerrero.

It was also Santos' first defeat in the competition.

Elsewhere, Borges' late strike salvaged a point for Sao Paulo in a 1-1 draw with Santo Andre.

Marcelinho Carioca put the visitors ahead in the 27th minute with a header before Borges volleyed home the equaliser for Muricy Ramalho's side with six minutes to go.

Atletico Paranaense moved off the bottom of the table after beating Sport 1-0 courtesy of Rafael Santos' 74th-minute strike.
