Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo is set to extend his contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi rather than walk out on the club, according to his agent.

Melo, who joined La Viola from Almeria last summer, has been linked with a big-money move after an impressive season, with Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Inter Milan reportedly among the interested clubs.

Felipe will always be grateful to Fiorentina for having established him in top level football. And now it's right to show his attachment to the viola cause.

However, his agent believes the 25-year-old Brazil international will soon show his commitment to the Tuscan club by renewing his contract, which expires in 2012.

"Felipe will always be grateful to Fiorentina for having established him in top level football," Umberto Fusco said. "And now it's right to show his attachment to the viola cause. The rest is just chit chat.

"With regards to a contract extension, what matters is that it is the desire of both parties," he said.

"Above all the rumours, I always thought the lad would remain in Florence."
