Four-time Qatar Emir Cup winners Al Ahli advanced to the second round of this year's competition following a hard-fought 1-0 win against Al Markhiya.

Brazilian Vagner Reinar scored the only goal in the final minute of the first half, converting a penalty to send Al Ahli through to meet defending champions Umm Salal in the next round. Al Shamal also qualified for the second round with a 3-1 win against Al Shahaniya.

Al Shahaniya opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Mohamad Al Amin, but Al Shamal levelled in the 78th minute through Mahmoud Talha. Alaa Babaker put them ahead four minutes later, before Talha netted his second two minutes from time to seal the win.
