There was no change at the top in England, Germany, Italy and Spain at the weekend, but Lyon were forced to surrender first place in France. FIFA.com reviews the latest action in the continent's biggest leagues.
Premier League: Big four plough on
Leaders Manchester United fought hard for a 2-1 success at Sunderland, but pursuers Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal won, and all hit four goals to boot. For the second week in a row, 17-year-old Federico Macheda came up with a late match-winning goal for the Red Devils. Paul Scholes had earlier fired United in front, before Kenwyne Jones equalised with the hour mark approaching. The champions remain top of the pile by a point with a game in hand.
Liverpool disposed of Blackburn Rovers 4-0 and Arsenal eventually triumphed 4-1 away to Wigan Athletic. At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea appeared to be cruising at 4-0 up with just over 20 minutes to play, but a three-goal burst by visiting Bolton Wanderers in the space of eight minutes set up a frantic closing phase.
