Fiorentina on Wednesday became the latest Serie A team to decide to donate the takings from their next league match to the victims of the Abruzzo earthquake.

On the day that the death-toll rose above 250 people, Fiorentina said they would hand over the takings from their match against Cagliari this weekend. "In times as dramatic as this it's important for everyone amongst us to contribute something tangible to help the families of the victims of this natural disaster," said club president Andrea Della Valle.

On Tuesday Napoli were the first team to commit match funds to the quake victims and they were quickly followed by Catania and Siena. One team that won't be following suit, however, is hard-up Lazio, who host city rivals Roma on Saturday.

"I would have liked to donate the gate receipts from the derby to the Abruzzo quake victims but it's not my money, it's the taxman's," said president Claudio Lolito. "Lazio's gate receipts go straight to the taxman and I don't even know what they do with it. I can't give away what's not the property of Lazio."

Lazio owe around 140 million euros to the national treasury due to a decade of mismanagement under previous president Sergio Cragnotti, which although it helped produce the club's best-ever results on the field, also left them with crippling debts.

The Italian Football League (Figc) has also announced that a minute's silence will be observed before matches in the top two divisions this weekend and players will wear black armbands in memory of the quake victims.
