Qualification history*
Kyrgyzstan have taken part in the continental preliminaries for the past five FIFA World Cups™.  However, the Central Asians are yet to progress beyond the second qualifying round. Their campaign in qualifying for Brazil 2014 proved to be no exception, with the Central Asians conceding seven unanswered goals against Uzbekistan to bow out.

The team*
The current team features some of the country’s emerging stars, with Dordoi duo David Tetteh and Azamat Baymatov among the most notable. Born in Ghana, the former has scored regularly for both club and country. The latter has, meanwhile, proved to be a defensive lynchpin. Also at coach Aleksandr Krestinin's disposal are a group of overseas-based players. Defender Valerii Kichin, plying his trade with Russia's Tyumen, will shore up the defence while Spartak Semey midfielder Anatoliy Vlasichev is expected to provide ammunition for the attackers.

The coach*
A former defender, 36-year-old Krestinin spent his twilight of career with FC Neftchi Kochkor-Ata before starting managing the same side. He was appointed national coach in 2014.
