Qualification history
Seychelles drew their first-ever FIFA World Cup™ qualifier in the preliminaries for 2002, and surprisingly took a point from talented Zambia four years later. However, they are still looking for their first qualifying victory after a series of lopsided defeats in the last two campaigns.

The team
As the Pirates' qualifying campaigns for the World Cup and the CAF Africa Cup of Nations often end at the first hurdle, the Indian Ocean archipelago typically gain most of their international experience in friendlies and the regional Island Games, which they won in 2011 via shoot-out against Mauritius. Virtually the entire national team typically play in the local first division.

The coach
Ulric ‘Keker’ Mathiot is in his third stint coaching the Seychelles national team, taking over as caretaker in 2014. The former international first led the national team in 1991 and again almost two decades later. The coach, who is a qualified FIFA instructor, has also been in charge of local clubs St. Louis and Sunshine.
