Lesotho have been trying to qualify for the FIFA World Cup™ regularly since the 2002 edition, and they have never threatened to upset the continental order. However, in the last set of preliminaries they finally recorded their first victories – topping Burundi and most impressively Sudan in Omdurman.
The Crocodiles can punch above their weight as they proved as they advanced to the final round in qualifying for the 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations. Midfielder Ralekoti Mokhahlane and striker Thapelo Tale have some small European club experience, and USA-based striker Sunny Jane is also a reliable option.
Former Lesotho international Seephephe 'Mochini' Matete represented the Crocodiles in the Spain 82 qualifying campaign. At the end of his playing career, he moved into coaching and was appointed the federation's technical director in 2006. Eight years on, he took over the national team on an interim basis and held on to the position, sensationally leading the Crocodiles to two-legged victories over Liberia and Kenya in AFCON 2015 qualifying.
