Qualification history
In the 1998 and 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers™, Kenya showed flashes of promise. Ahead of Brazil 2014 their performances against eventual qualifiers Nigeria were very encouraging. The Harambee Stars had the Super Eagles down 1-0 at home until well into second half injury time in one contest before giving up a dramatic equaliser, and they only fell to an 80th minute goal in the other.

The team
Kenya boast brothers who have both played in the UEFA Champions League. McDonald Mariga has spent several seasons in Italy, while the younger Victor Wanyama rose to prominence with Celtic before the Scottish champions accepted the highest-ever transfer fee paid to a Scottish club from Southampton for the defensive midfielder. The majority of players in the squad though play domestically.

The coach
Bobby Williamson had success leading Uganda before joining Gor Mahia, who he took to their first league title in 18 years. The former striker played in his native Scotland and England, most notably for Rangers, and coached Kilmarnock and Hibernian at the start of his managerial career.
