Qualification history
Despite the nation’s mountainous terrain, Nepal do not lack for passion when it comes to football, with the Himalayan country among Asia's most frequent participants in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup™. Despite their regular involvement though, Nepal’s record has been relatively modest and they have never progressed to the latter stages since debuting in Mexico 1986 qualifying. Their campaign for the past FIFA World Cup at Brazil 2014 saw them concede ten unanswered goals in the first leg of their second-round tie against Jordan, although a 1-1 home draw in the return provided them with optimism for future despite being eliminated. Russia 2018 proved to be a similar story, with the Nepalese going out to India 2-0 on aggregate, but buoyed by a goalless draw in the second leg.
