Qualification history
Anguilla, a tiny Caribbean island with a population of just over 15,000, are traditionally one of the weakest teams in North, Central America and the Caribbean. It is a fact underscored by their recent slump into the last place, 209th, in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. After failing to reach past the early stages of qualifying since their first effort ahead of the 2002 finals, the Anguillans kept up their underachievement this time out, losing 8-0 to Nicaragua over two legs despite the help of USA-based, Polish-born coach Richard Orlowski. Anguilla’s best-ever result in a qualifying game remains a 0-0 draw with the Dominican Republic in the quickly fading past.
