Between 10 and 12 April the Russia 2018 Local Organising Committee (LOC) and FIFA delegation completed the first leg of inspection visits to Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don as part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Host Cities selection process.
Jürgen Müller, Head of FIFA World Cups 2014, 2018 and 2022 department, summarised the first visit: “The objectives of these visits are to get a first hand picture on the proposed venues and this objective was met on this first stage of the candidate host city inspection tour. The visits were well organised and we have seen a full commitment from all candidate host cities visited so far. The host city selection process is a major milestone on the way to the 2018 FIFA World Cup. We look forward to visit the remaining other candidate venues.”
The Host City Selection Tour will continue through April and May and will end on 22 June. At the end of the inspection tour the LOC will prepare an evaluation report that will be part of the selection process of the Host Cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The final decision on the 2018 FIFA World Cup Host Cities and stadiums will be announced at the end of September 2012.
