Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister
I want to tell you a little story about my hometown, Leningrad. The city was destroyed during World War II. There was no electricity, no heat and no food during winter, but there was football. The game helped people to make it through hard times. Today there are millions of people living in Russia and a huge amount of them play football. This sport makes a positive difference. 2018 will be fantastic. We will build new stadiums and do our best to make the World Cup safe and enjoyable for everyone. We will allow all football fans to enter the country without a visa in order to enjoy the tournament and to get to know Russia and its history and culture.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov
You have entrusted us with the World Cup, and we will not disappoint you. Let us make history together.

It was a truly wise decision. Russia really needs this tournament. It will be a huge impulse for football development in Russia. The World Cup will defininitely change the situation in our football for better, much better.

This is a huge boost for football there. For all those beautiful stadiums and for the Russian economy. It could very well be that many international companies will invest there now.
