The FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter received a delegation from Korea Republic led by the President of Korea Republic, His Excellency Lee Myung-Bak, at FIFA headquarters on Wednesday 27 January. The courtesy visit also served as an opportunity to underline the country’s official support for Korea Republic’s bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup™.

Korea Republic have so far followed all the procedures for nations proposing bids (see attached circular), the most recent of which consisted of sending FIFA a signed Bidding Agreement for the 2022 FIFA World Cup before 11 December last year.

Alongside Korea Republic’s President, the delegation also comprised FIFA vice-president Dr Mong Joon-Chung; Korea Republic's 2022 FIFA World Cup Candidature Committee President, Dr Han Sung-Joo; Korea Republic’s ambassador to Switzerland, Kim Jong-Il; and Korea Republic Football Association President Dr Cho Chung-Yun.

After their courtesy visit, the representatives of the South Korean bid will need to get down to work to meet the next deadline in the bidding process: submission to FIFA of the Bid Book, the signed Hosting Agreement and all other hosting documents by 14 May.

For his part, President Blatter expressed his delight in receiving the South Korean President at FIFA headquarters. “FIFA thanks Korea Republic for the interest it has shown in organising the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup. This candidature, along with all the others we have received, serves as a sign of recognition for this tournament.”

President Myung-Bak also spoke of his delight at the co-operation between FIFA and his country. He said:"I am happy Korea and FIFA are working together to bring peace and hope to Korea and beyond."

Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands, England, Japan, Russia, Spain and Portugal, and the United States have all joined the bidding process to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup, while Korea Republic, Indonesia and Qatar have proposed bids for the 2022 FIFA World Cup alone.
