Qualification history
San Marino are yet to win a single qualifying match since they gained affiliation to FIFA in 1988. To date, their best results are a goalless draw with Turkey in a 1994 FIFA World Cup USA™ qualifier, and a 1-1 stalemate against Latvia in the preliminaries for Korea/Japan 2002. San Marino do, however, hold the record for the fastest goal in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match. Davide Gualtieri was the man who made history with a strike after 8.3 seconds of San Marino’s USA 1994 qualifier against England.

The current crop
All national teams have a dream, and San Marino are no different. Their chances of reaching the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil are slim at best, but San Marino hope their modern facilities will help them achieve their ultimate goal of finally winning a qualifying match.

The key players
Goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini is seen as a great prospect for the future, while record cap-holder Damiano Vannucci and defender Alessandro Della are mainstays of the San Marino team.
