Dominican Republic

Football has long been thwarted by a lack of public interest in the Dominican Republic, contributing to an overall weak presence in CONCACAF competition for the Caribbean nation. This time around, in qualifying for Brazil 2014, the islanders bullied their way into the first group stage after a 6-0 aggregate win over Anguilla. However, the team led by Erick Ozuna and Domingo Peralta, failed to find a way through Group A and went out of contention with a creditable second-place finish ahead of the Cayman Islands and Suriname, but ten points behind winners El Salvador.
