Barbados began their attempts to qualify for the FIFA World Cup™ in 1978. The Bajan Braves’ forays into the cruel world of international football usually ended in lopsided and early exits from the competition. They have never qualified for a FIFA World Cup finals and never qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the North, Central American and Caribbean zone’s cup of nations. However, ahead of the world finals in 2010, the Barbadians scoured the globe looking for potential players in an attempt to reach the world finals in South Africa. They came up well short in the end, but managed a two-legged win over minnows Dominica only to be bested 9-0 by USA in the subsequent round. The Brazil 2014 campaign proved to be a disaster for Barbados, with the side losing all six of their second-round group games to Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda and Guyana, scoring just two goals in the bargain.
